This is actually a common question I am asked so, I thought I would share my top tips in the hope to help more people.<\/p><p>Some people thrive best on going cold turkey. They just quit one day and never look back. For most of us we will fall off the wagon after awhile because it's not a sustainable change. So here are my top tips to breaking a coffee habit and make sustainable long-term changes.<\/p><p><strong>Gradual<\/strong>: My recommendation is to gradually wean yourself off. For example, if you drink 3 cups of coffee a day, reduce by 1 cup for 1-2 weeks. Then when you feel ready reduce by 2 cups of coffee, and so forth.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Replace<\/strong>: Try replacing coffee with an alternative such as a hot cacao drink, or chickory (great for gut health) or turmeric latte.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Emotions<\/strong>: Start tuning into yourself and become aware of your emotions associated with drinking coffee. What emotions do you attach to drinking a coffee? How does coffee make you feel? \u00a0Sometimes there is something underpinning that has made it habitual for you. Exploring your emotions associated with a habit can reveal other issues in your life, for example stress. Perhaps when you reach for a coffee it's because you feel stressed and it's a comfort for you. Then you could start to explore and become more aware of stressors in your life and then consider if you can reduce or eliminate areas that cause you stress. Or it could be that you lack energy and you reach for a coffee to keep you going, in which case you need to be exploring why you are running on low energy on a daily basis.<\/p><p><strong>New Habits:<\/strong> Where can you build a new habit into your daily routine? Could a healthier habit replace the coffee habit?\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<strong>Check in<\/strong>: What is just as important as changing the habit, is to check in with yourself and see how you are feeling without drinking coffee. Has anything changed for the better or worse? Can you understand and appreciate on a deeper level how you are feeling now that you have kicked the coffee habit? If you are feeling good, really milk that feeling so that it re-enforces why you don't drink coffee anymore and you are more likely to maintain your new healthy habits because you won't want to go back to feeling bad.\u00a0<\/p><p>If kicking the coffee habit is something you want to do, then I hope you found the tips useful and you are able to employ some or all of them.<\/p><p>If you are looking for support with kicking old habits and upgrading your health, I offer 1 to 1 Health Coaching sessions.
